英语“天地”怎么翻译

"天地"一词是东亚民族对宇宙和自然界的一种特有概念,并不指具体的空间地理位置,也没有时间限制.英语国家没有这个概念,自然也没有与之准确相对应的词语,不过大体上接近罢了.汉语中"天地"一词,大体有四方面的意思,

1.指自然界或宇宙.如天地万物.英语nature/world或universe与之相当.everything in the world.

2.指天下,尤其是古时候帝王对于自己统治的国家的称谓,政治意味更强,尤其指统治.英语可用country,state或ruling或dynasty表达.如汉语:"陈胜城中鼓三下，秦家天地如崩瓦."

3.指天与地,天上与地下.如,天地间.即英语的heaven and earth; between heaven and earth.

Jesus said,"I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you havehidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

那时，耶稣说，父阿，天地的主，我感谢你，因为你将这些事，向聪明通达人，就藏起来，向婴孩，就显出来。

4.指天地神灵.如,拜天地,报答天地等.英语中用god,泛指诸神,或deity指各神灵.goddess女神.

5.指一种境界或境地.比较抽象如,别有天地;事情怎么会弄到这步天地.英语大体上为state,realm或situation,condition,但各种具体境界不同,境地也各异.所以对应英文翻译的具体情况也千差万别,不可死板.应灵活处理.

a state of wonder,奇妙的境界. a frame of mind思想境界, a difficult situation.艰难的境地.

这个问题非常有意思，我觉得“天地”可以译为“The heavens and the earth”。

“天地”这个词，应该说的是我们所处的最大范围的空间，在nkjv版的《圣经》里，第一句话就是“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”一般来说，准确的翻译就是“起初，神创造天地。”

只要用“The heavens and the earth”，一般说英语的人就会准确地明白这是“天地”的意思。至于nkjv的权威性以及为什么heaven用复数，这里就不讨论了。

当然，如果这里的“天地”指的是“天地君亲师”的那个“天地”，那就应当译为“The god（or gods）who created the heavens and the earth”。
